When Jesus died on the cross AS US He identified with our lost identity completely. So much did He do that that He pleaded with His Father that, if there be any other way, He might not have to drink that bitter cup. He was not so much in agony over the physical suffering (which we would never have to share) but over the complete identification with mankind’s PERCEIVED separation from God, which lie we now are, through what He did, absolutely freed from. He had never for one moment ever in all eternity felt one moment of separation in the mind which we call “sin” but, for that six hours (not even counting the horror of the scourging) He hung “as us” on the cross, BECOMING SIN FOR US. He fully participated in the belief He had been abandoned by God and died for every man who ever believed that lie (which is all of us). The Bible says He BECAME SIN. Sin is not an action it’s an IDENTITY.
I have lifted and paraphrased this from an broadcast between Bishop Dr. Bill Hanshew and Apostle Lynn Garner. https://youtu.be/nl7T_tiUTKc
